Adult Education English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

Whether you speak a little English or no English, we offer free English as a Second Language classes at Johnson County Community College at the level for you.

Fall 2025 classes

Registration for Spring 2025 is closed.
Registration for Fall 2025 is Monday, August 4, at 9 a.m.

Classes are offered in-person.

Class times

Monday and Wednesday
Classes start: Wednesday, September 3
Time: 9 a.m.–noon or 6–9 p.m.
Classes end: Wednesday, December 3

Tuesday and Thursday
Classes start: Thursday, September 4
Time: 9 a.m.–noon or 6–9 p.m.
Classes end: Thursday, December 4

Classes offered at West Park and Center of Grace.

Keep in mind:

Not all class levels will be offered every time or at every location.
If a class doesn’t have enough students, it will be canceled. Students will be offered another time.

ESL classes are available for:

Adults 18 years or older
Must live in the Kansas City metro area
Must be able to attend class in person

Expectations for all students, both in-person and online:

Attend classes regularly.
Be in class on time.
Complete 2 hours of homework each week.
Pay a non-refundable book and materials fee.
Be in class on the first day of class.
Be in class on the last day of class.
Complete registration, orientation and testing, and technology training (if necessary).

If a student stops attending classes before the last day of the semester, they may not be readmitted the following semester.

Registration is held at the beginning of each semester. You must register in person or online and attend a 2-day testing session.
